The Best hidden gems must see in Agadir
Agadir is a coastal gem, boasting sandy beaches, stunning sunsets, and a laid-back atmosphere that's perfect for relaxation. It's a destination that offers more than just beach vibes; it's a place where you can immerse yourself in culture, history, and natural beauty. While many visitors flock to Agadir for its beaches and luxury accommodation there are hidden gems waiting to be discovered that will enrich your experience of this Moroccan city.
1- Agadir Kasbah
Perched high above the city, the Agadir Kasbah offers panoramic views of the coastline and the city below. Although the Kasbah itself is in ruins, its historical significance and breathtaking views make it a must-visit spot in Agadir. Take a leisurely stroll through the ruins and imagine the city's past as you soak in the stunning vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and the city skyline.
Also known as Agadir Oufella, the hilltop kasbah was largely destroyed in the 1960 earthquake, yet its walls frame the single best view in the city. Go about an hour before sunset, when the light softens and the whole crescent of the bay glows.
2 - Souk El Had
For an authentic Moroccan shopping experience, head to Souk El Had. Our tour of the best hidden gems in Agadir starts here. This bustling market is a treasure trove of spices, textiles, handicrafts, and more. Lose yourself in the maze of narrow alleyways and browse the stalls filled with colorful goods. Don't forget to haggle for the best prices and sample some local delicacies along the way.
It is one of the largest markets in North Africa, with thousands of stalls grouped into loose sections — produce, leather, ceramics, clothing and jewellery. Go in the morning for the freshest produce and the calmest atmosphere, and keep a few dirhams aside for a fresh orange juice at the end.
3 - Vallee des Oiseaux
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in nature at the Vallee des Oiseaux, or Bird Valley. This tranquil oasis is home to a variety of bird species, lush greenery, and peaceful walking paths. Take a leisurely stroll through the park, enjoy a picnic by the lake, or simply relax and soak in the serene ambiance.
It sits right in the centre of town, which makes it an easy, free stop to combine with a walk along the promenade. Children love the flamingos, peacocks and the small playground.
4 - Agadir Marina
Experience the modern side of Agadir at the bustling Marina. Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade, lined with trendy cafes, restaurants, and shops. Marvel at the luxury yachts docked in the marina, or simply sit back and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a delicious meal, a refreshing drink, or some retail therapy, the Marina has something for everyone.
Evening is the best time to visit: the boats are lit up, the restaurants spill onto the quay, and the sunset reflects off the water.
5 - La Medina d'Agadir
One of the best things to do in Agadir is to step back in time and explore the reconstructed medina. This traditional Moroccan marketplace is a labyrinth of narrow alleyways, bustling souks, and hidden treasures. Browse the stalls selling everything from spices and textiles to handmade crafts and souvenirs. Take in the sights, sounds, and smells of this vibrant marketplace as you immerse yourself in Agadir's rich culture and heritage.
The medina was rebuilt as a living tribute to the old city and its artisans still work on site — you can watch pottery, leatherwork and metalwork being made by hand.
Two more worth the short drive
Paradise Valley. About 45 minutes north of Agadir, this palm-filled gorge has natural rock pools and small waterfalls. It is a favourite half-day trip, best visited in spring when the water is at its fullest.
Taghazout. The surf village just up the coast is a hidden gem in its own right — laid-back cafes, sunset terraces and some of the best beginner waves in Morocco.
Make Agadir your base
The best way to explore all of these gems at your own pace is to stay somewhere central and comfortable. Our Aliya Luxury Apartments sit a short drive from the kasbah, the souk and the marina, and we are happy to arrange transfers or a private driver so you can fit more into every day.
Whether you are here for a weekend or a fortnight, look beyond the beach — Agadir's real character is hiding in plain sight.
